dn&co have recently undertaken some lovely typographic identity work for the new, mixed use, development ‘AirW1′ in London. The primary direction of the work taking inspiration from the building’s original Art Deco details.

AirW1 is a huge new development just off Regent Street between Golden Square and Piccadilly Circus. It’s one of the largest developments to come to the West End. The identity is a modern take on Art Deco, drawing from the architectural heritage of the building and its modern redevelopment. The clients are the Crown Estate and Stanhope.

dn&co devised the name and identity of the building, including a bespoke typeface called Art Deco. Production includes a book spec’d with a tailor-made debossed quilted cover and cold glue binding, and the installation of an Exploratorium; a unique marketing suite encouraging visitors to explore the building and local area through interactive elements and augmented reality.

Final push Typeface

Really Loved the feed back on my typeface today, Spoke to lee first who seemed to love what i have created, he gave me some good advice and why not push the boundaries instead of just making the same old specimen book why not create a set of specimin posters, we both came to the agreement that i think his would be a good idea, even though the book was coming along nicely i think little bits of detail in the typeface was getting lost in the book, Lee said to create big bold posters in the style of Swiss designs such as Muller Brockmann, so i am enjoying creating these,

Another big boost came today as well when i got a little chance to speak to Tim who seemed to also like my typeface, his initial reaction was wowza which i took as compliment, he suggested i also go down the route what lee said but also why not try to do a perspective poster that makes you think that its is 3d so the type goes smaller the further back you go, some great feedback from Tim too to really boost my confidence with it

And last but not least i got a quick chance to chat with Jason Mayo from Shape Design studio, he said my typeface was really cool looking and maybe i should start to sell it online which boosted my confidence massively,he also agreed with the typeface looking better the bigger it goes and said i should go down that route
